I read that the word Mosque came from the word mosquito.
A crusader once said in a speech: I will crush Muslims like I crush a Mosquito.
So people started to call the Masjid = Mosque.
Is this true?

No. The word "mosque" is originally the french pronunciation of the spanish "mezquita", which the spanish obviously would have got from the Arabic "masjid", which would have been well-known to them while the Muslims were in al-Andalus.

There is also another story which goes as folowed: the Queen of England used to remark that the Muslims are going to their places of worship like the 'Mosquitos' to their homes, i.e. in thousands at a time, and from that time the people called the Masjids 'Mosques'.
