The brothers of Yusuf عليه السلام said: وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ ("And we will be his guardians")

The father of Yusuf عليه السلام said: فَاللَّهُ خَيْرٌ حَافِظًا ("Allah is the best of Guardian")

It is always the case in the Qur'an that the righteous and pious return all their affairs, ability and power to Allah. Ya'qoob عليه السلام let Yusuf عليه السلام go and thus lost him, yet Allah protected and preserved him. Putting our complete trust and certainty in Allah will increase our perseverance, bring us peace of mind and a tranquil heart.

Question: Can you provide one example each in the Qur'an where Allah عزوجل guarantees protection for (i) someone and (ii) something?
        .

BarakAllah feek Akhi karim. Great pleasure to see you posts again

          One possible answer is in Surah Hijjar where Allah عزوجل says about Quraan and in Surah Maidah about His Messenger (salAllahu alahay wasalm);

          إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ

          and

Wa'alaykumusalaam wa rahmatullah akhi, wa feekuma baarakAllah katheera. Despite the numerous examples you could have taken, you picked the two I had in mind Mashallah. What is interesting to note is that it works both ways; Allah's protection is for people who also take Him as their Protector (as we find Al-Maa'idah, 56).

Allah عزوجل Mentioned in the Qur'an recounting Shaytan's threat to mankind:

              ثُمَّ لَآتِيَنَّهُم مِّن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ وَعَنْ أَيْمَانِهِمْ وَعَن شَمَائِلِهِمْ

"Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left..."
              [Al-A'raaf, 17]

Question: Shaytan لعنة الله has vowed to attack the son of Adam in every way, yet we notice in this Ayah he did not say, "and from above them".
What is one of the reasons identified for this apparent omission?

One possible reason can be why Shaytan is unable to attack from above because it can not come between us and mercy of Allah

                  .
Yes a number of tafseer books mention this reason akhi. Ibn al-Qayyim for example, mentioned in his 'Ighathatal-Lafhan' (1/103) a few statements from the salaf explaining this profound reason. He quotes Ibn 'Abbas's statement:
ولم يقل من فوقهم؛ لأنه علم أن الله من فوقهم

"He did not say from above them because he knew that Allah is above them."

                  And Al-Sha'bi who said:
فالله عز وجل أنزل الرحمة عليهم من فوقهم

"Allah 'azza wa jalla brought rahmah on them, from above them."

                  Before bringing Qatadah's insightful comment:
أتاك الشيطان يا ابن آدم من كل وجه ، غير أنه لم يأتك من فوقك ، لم يستطع أن يحول بينك وبين رحمة الله

"Shaytan comes to the son of Adam from every direction, but he does not come from above for he can not stand between you and the Mercy of Allah."
This emphasis on 'aboveness' is an emphasis on Allah's connection with His slaves, to whom He shows mercy and forgiveness and doesn't sever guidance for those who firmly thwart Shaytan's attempts to deceive them on earth. As He Said (translation thereof): "But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance." [Ta Ha, 82]

                  And Allah knows best.

                        What is the command?

O you who have believed, when you [wish to] privately consult the Messenger, present before your consultation a charity.

                        Surah Mujadilah Ayat 12

                        ...

Who is the companion who had honour to act upon it ?

Ali (radiAlahu anhu) said about this ayat and command " “ no one has acted on it before me and after me”

                        ....

Abdullah bin 'Abbas said, this Command was sent down because the Muslims had started requesting the Prophet (upon whom be Allah's peace) for private counsel much too frequently; and this put him to great inconvenience.

At last, Allah willed to relieve His Prophet of this burden.. (Ibn Jarir).

Zaid. bin Aslam says that the Prophet (upon whom be Allah's peace) would never turn down the request of anyone, who wanted to consult him in private. Whoever desired to have private counsel with him, he would oblige him. Often it so happened that the people would ask for private counsel in matters in which there was no real need.

This was the time when all of Arabia was engaged in war against Madinah. Sometimes after a person had made such a request, Satan would' whisper into the ears of the people the idea that he had brought to the Prophet the news of invasion by such and such tribes, and this would cause rumours to spread in Madinah.

On the other hand, this would give the hypocrites an opportunity to say that Muhammad (upon whom be Allah's peace) listened to and believed in whatever anyone told him.

Qatadah says that some people talked to the Holy Prophet in private in order to show their superiority to others.

Because of this Allah imposed the restriction that anyone who wanted to have private counsel with the Prophet should first give away something in charity. (Ibn 'Arabi: Ahkam al-Qur an).

Ali says when this was enjoined the Prophet asked him, What should be the quantity of the charity? Should it be one dinar? I said: This is more than the people can afford.

The Prophet then asked: Should it be half a dinar? I said: This too is too much. Then he asked what it should be. I said . Gold equal to a barley grain. The Holy Prophet remarked: Your advice is for too little! " (Ibn Jarir, Tirmidhi, Musnad Abu ya'/a).

Ali says: "This is a verse of the Qur'an which no one acted upon except me. As soon as it was enjoined, I offered the charity and consulted the Prophet about a problem. " (Ibn Jarir, Hakim, lbn al-Mundhi, `Abd bin Humaid).

This also shows that companions would never miss a chance to act on commands of Allah سبحانه و تعال. With Allah's great mercy this restriction was soon lifted.

Yes, with His great Mercy Allah lifted this restriction soon

                            حدثنا ابن عبد الأعلى، قال: ثنا ابن ثور، عن معمر، عن قتادة ( إِذَا نَاجَيْتُمُ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ نَجْوَاكُمْ صَدَقَةً ) قال: إنها منسوخة ما كانت إلا ساعة من نهار

                            (Tafseer Al-Tabri)

                            and Companions were so keen on obeying commands of Allah Ibn-e-Umar (radiaAllahu Anhu) said;

"Our Lord! We have indeed believed, so forgive us our sins and save us from the punishment of the Fire." [Aal-Imraan, 16]

In the Qur'an, Allah عزوجل describes some of the punishment sent upon past nations, as well as what mankind will continue to suffer in dunya, and what will be inflicted upon people in the akhirah. Some specific causes have been provided, while others are more general for us to identify and ponder upon.

                              Questions:

                              (i) What is counted amongst the biggest (intangible) punishment that can afflict man in dunya, by which his akhirah can be completely ruined?

(ii) What are some of the (tangible) remedies to overcome this affliction?

[Note: This is an open-ended question with intent to highlight beneficial solution/s we can embrace in this blessed month of Ramadan]

One of the punishment for those who reject guidance and follow their desires is that Allah seals their hearing heart, cover their sight and sends them astray

Have you seen him who takes his own lust as his god And Allah, left him astray with knowledge, and sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allah Will you not then remember

                                (Surah Jathya ayat 23)
