"Imaam At-Tirmithi said: 'The people of knowledge from the companions their successors and the scholars who came after them are agreed that right hand should be placed over left hand during prayers. Some of them are of the opinion that the hands should be placed above the navel while others are of the opinion that they should be placed below the navel. Both practices are acceptable'."

For those who want to study Hanbali Fiqh, I suggest starting here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ii9_G...feature=relmfu This sharh is followed by a sharh of Dalil al-Talib (mp3's available online) and then a sharh of Zad al-Mustaqni (mp3's available and also on youtube). These explanations are very clear and very accurate. The sharh of Akhsar al-Mukhtasarat and Zad al-Mustaqni' have also been transcribed. |

Dear Shaykh [Shaykh Abu Bakr B. Nasir (ABBN)],
I await for the evidence(s) you kindly agreed to provide me for my learning & understanding the evidences in favor of placing hands elsewhere (other than on/near chest). By the way, here:[http://www.ahlalhdeeth.com/vbe/showp...1&postcount=11] my statement &/or intention was misunderstood. I was NEITHER surprised NOR insulted. What surprised me there is the 'scale' to decide/evaluate/weigh one's laymanhood and the scale was "questioning for evidence". Let me clarify further, Shaykh ABBN deduced my laymanhood just after I asked for the evidence(s) there. I don't hesitate to tell that I was a layman even before Sh ABBN said that but I was surprised to see the Shaykh calling me a layman only after [or due to] asking for the evidences; as if asking for the evidence is an indicator of laymanhood. This is what I intended there, and what surprised me. I am not a scholar (that is, I am a layman) and this fact drives me come here -despite, at times, the rudeness & immodesty I faced- at my spare times to gather something. Were I a scholar, why would I come here & ask you [while many a time your approach or behavior is not cordial, fair & decent]? Were I a scholar, I would be the answerer, not the questioner! The way I quote and write is simply a layman way - coz I am not a scholar to write in matters of Deen from my own treasury(= knowledge & expertise). Is it fitting in matters of Deen to write out of whims, instead of copying & pasting? Anyway, laymen are of different categories and if I am not mistaken, there existed laymen even among the companions; there were hundreds of companions but only few of them were scholars. Being layman is not a matter to be insulted at. The afflicting matter is the hasty misunderstanding of intention &/or purpose and stretched deduction of what happened/remained in the heart (which is a matter of unseen, only known by Allah SWT). |

this thread should be deleted. waste of time. An issue that is as complex as this one. Just follow what you madhabs tells you. if you hanafi below the navel, Hanbali above the navel or below the navel if you follow that opinioon as some Hanbalis do etc etc.
otherwise leave it alone.

as-salaamu 'alaikum,
I agree with brother rizwan. It seems people have no work to do these days, so they waste their time doing what doesn't benifit them nor others. May Allah forgive us & protect us. jazak Allahu khayran brother abu bakr bin nasir for the link and suggestion
